Location Description

Beautiful self-catering holiday apartment set in a Century (over 100 years old!) old building on a road that winds around the medieval hilltop town of Vasto in Abruzzo (Chieti).

Located just a few minutes walk from the historic city centre of Vasto, on the Adriatic coast of Italy, our beautifully restored apartment is ideally located. Only a minute's walk to restaurants, cafes (pasticcierie), boutiques, churches, museums, library and art galleries. The nearest beach is a swift 5 mins by car or bus. There is on street car parking right in front of the house and several car parks close by.

Cultural events are held throughout the year, with food & wine festivals (sagre), rock, jazz & classical concerts, fireworks and local pageants. (mostly free). There are churches, cathedrals, Roman baths with mosaics, a Medieval Castle, parks, art galleries, museum, weekly local market and a Palace. There is a tennis club, indoor swimming pool and gym, all within a few minutes walk. We are only 15 minutes by car or regular bus to Aqualand water park, also to the woodland nature reserve, and Punta Penna seaside nature reserve. An ideal location for either a city break or week on the beach. No car necessary!

Rome is only an easy 3 hour drive due west while Pescara is just about 40 minutes due north. Both Rome and Pescara have major airports.

It is only 5 mins by car to the nearest pebble beach. There is an ancient wooden fishing Trabocco (pier) located here and it is a great beach for rock pools and snorkelling.

The town is bustling with life and apart from the shops, bars, pavement cafes, local markets and restaurants, the town has many activities put on by the Comune with Jazz in the park, classical piano concerto's in the Palace gardens and rock bands in the piazza. There is also a beautiful theater (like a mini Convent Garden Opera House) with only 150 seats where they have a summer program. There are many activities for children, including pottery classes and face painting. There is also a festival of cooking with displays held in the piazza, and of course wine-tasting! In August we have our local pageant the Toson D'Oro with a procession through the town with horse and carriages carrying the dignitaries dressed in 18th century costume. The festivities continue with fire-eaters, stilt-walkers and of course a firework display. We also have a film festival with large screens set up in the piazza showing the latest releases (in Italian!) Almost all of these activities are free. Vasto Marina sand beach is gently shelving so ideal for children, pedalos, motorboats, sunbeds and brollies are for hire here, whilst the pebble beach is ideal for fishing and snorkeling. There is also a large water park Aqualand nearby (15 mins by car/bus) The Guidata Bosco Di Don Venanzio woodland nature reserve, and Punta Penna seaside nature reserve are both only 15 mins drive away. The Maiella national Park is just over a hours drive away, and further afield you can find caves and grottoes, waterfalls and beautiful scenery, should you wish to explore. There is a ferry based in Termoli -easily accessible in 25 mins by car - which can take you to the Tremiti Islands in 50 mins. These beautiful Islands have the clearest blue water and coral reef fantastic for divers and snorkelers. You can hire boats here for the day and return on the evening ferry.Car hire is available locally if you need it.There is a full information brochure provided in the property & we live nearby for assistance if needed.

Vasto's beautiful countryside and lively towns along with it's huge sandy sweeping beaches make it the perfect holiday destination. Vasto is one of the very few Medieval towns that sit along the coastline, close enough to walk to the beach. Most are located in the hills a good drive away from the sea. This is what makes Vasto so special. The town has grown into a sophisticated holiday resort for wealthy Romans, many of whom have a second home here for the summer. It is still relatively unknown elsewhere, and therefore unspoilt by tourism. If you want a 'real' Italian holiday, then come here not only for the beaches, but the beautiful town itself and all it has to offer.
